| Biography |
 |
In sound, The Plastics pay homage to retro-rock and classic pop imagery. The Plastics are a live performance orientated band and have already performed with the majority of South Africa’s most sought after musical acts. In their first year on the local music scene The Plastics claimed 1st prize at The Redbull Radar competition at Rocking the Daisies 2008 and were finalists in ‘The Road to V-Fest’ competition.
The Plastics have been featured in most major publications across South Africa including specials on The Showbiz Report and MTV base and articles in the Cape Times, Marie Claire Magazine(8 page Fashion spread) and reviews in One Small seed magazine. They have just released two music videos for their songs ‘Tiny Islands’ and ‘Dirty Dancing’ and are fresh off a stellar performance at Rocking The Daisies 2009 in which they entertained during the headlining slot like festival veterans.
The band has performed live at Ramfest, Oppikoppi Easter ,Oppikoppi August, The Billabong Pro, Up the Creek, Synergy Rocking the Daisies (2008 and 2009) and have done three national tours to promote their second release ‘Kiss The Plastics’.
The Plastics have been given a recording sponsorship with Sound and Motion Studios and are currently writing new material and exploring new sonic landscapes for their highly anticipated debut album. The album is the biggest project the band had ever embarked upon and because of this they have enlisted the services of internationally acclaimed music producer Gordon Raphael (the man behind the production of the first and second ‘The Strokes’ albums) Gordon will be recording and producing with the band during January 2010 at Sound and Motion. The album is entitled ‘Shark’ and will be available nationwide in 2010
The Plastics. Say, "thuh plas-tiks". Collective jams, sleazy sweet mumbles. Put it in, turn it on, turn it up, turn it up,switch tracks. You like...you want more. Dance like you feel it. Stand back, look out. Look through the haze, crazy days keep it laid Back track to how it all began, sing the songs they sang. You want it, you want it now, you want it. Falsetto sounds from Cape Town, listen close with your clothes off.
