Singer, songwriter and music producer, Tebogo Ramokgadi was discovered at 12 when he came first in the Top of the Pops Competition. He then went on to win the Voice of Choice/Motsweding Fm/Radio Competition when he was 21. Originally from Phokeng, Tebogo sings in Setswana which is his home language as well as English and other African languages. The young South African singer, who has a musical diploma in Contemporary Music and performed in the choir of the National School of the Arts, has worked and shared the stage with music icons Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Hugh Masekela. Tebogo is on the rise and set to become one of Africa’s musical icons. While still at Eastside College Tebogo was nurtured by South African guitarist and music legend Bhekhi Khoza and vocally trained by one of South Africa’s finest vocal teacher and R ‘n B singer RJ Benjamin. Legendary singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka describes Tebogo as “amazingly talented “while some say he’s the future of his generation. Tebogo’s first album, Simple Life, is a mixture of Maskandi, World music and Afro Jazz with a bit of Pop. The album’s title track Simply Life received play listing in Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, UK, Canada and South Africa. While most of Tebogo’s peers use back- tracks he prefers to make use of a live jazz band moving with ease between genres. Soulful and passionate Tebogo is a musician with a lot of energy in song delivery. His outspokenness may get him into all the tabloids but his talent will have the final say. “Passion is what drives me, I strive for quality in everything I do, says Mr Ramokgadi. I want my music to speak to people and touch their souls. I’m an angel of song. I was born to sing and make people feel better through my music. I don’t try hard when I sing it comes naturally, I’m a born singer. An African who can speak to my fellow African through my music. My music is very uplifting and very legendary, it speaks to souls and heals broken hearts. I sing about love, life, sorrow, happiness and everything that happens around the world whether good or bad, I tackle every subject. I always motivate young people and tell them not to just dream, but to go for it. I’m a motivator.
