| Biography |
 |
It’s another steaming Durban night, and you’re asking yourself what possessed you to leave the comfy couch and TV remote behind. It was the promise of the unpredictable, the chance to relive the madness of another night – the flash of revelation, the poignant conversation, the kiss that made you feel so far away, and the girl that got away. It’s the driving sound of overdriven guitars, the hypnotic bass line and the voices in harmony soaring above it all, which gives you that funny, nervous anticipation of the promise of another night of laughter and good times. Small Town Heroes, saving the world one gig at a time, are on stage and the night is young. Go make yourself some memories… SMALL TOWN HEROES a few). The band, formed in 2004 with the name “Silkworm” began recording material immediately. Silkworm soon became SMALL TOWN HEROES when it was discovered another overseas band of the same name existed. The first EP, recorded in late 2005, Nervous Wreckage, delivered the single “Swimming in Alcohol” which enjoyed much airplay on college radio stations throughout the country. comprises veteran musicians from prior bands Starplayer, Waverley, Park Lane and Blind Man’s Quarter (to name2005 & 2006, an ever growing fan base. saw SMALL TOWN HEROES playing many gigs throughout KZN (Splashy Fen being a highlight) and enjoyed success from2007 writing new material, the result of which was to be the band’s proudest work. was a quiet year for the band, focusing on their careers and struggling to find a solid line-up. Mark and John busied themselves with2008, newly re-invented Willowvale Hotel. The band brought to the stage, not only a new and fresh sound, but an accomplished drummer in Karel Jordaan. The year also saw the band’s catchy pop-rock track, “Hard As You Try”, shortlisted for Mr Price’s summer ad campaign. and SMALL TOWN HEROES were back, with a performance with Starplayer at the infamous Winston Pub. More shows followed at the2009, album. They’re going to have their work cut out for them, having to choose the best of 4 years worth of material. To date 3 songs have been recorded, mixed and mastered and will appear on the “Hard As You Try EP”, soon to be released to press and National radio. MXIT, the hugely popular portable instant messaging service, has SMALL TOWN HEROES infectious new single, “Hard as You Try” on its user voted music chart in the Top 20. Dstv’s MK89 Music Station requested a music video for the hugely popular song for their MXIT insert. The result - the band putting together an amusing self-produced video to accompany the song, a collection of studio and rehearsal footage, that perfectly captures the fun, light hearted and tongue-in-cheek attitude of the guys. The local rock music website, “MakeSomeNoise.co.za” still has “Hard As You Try” in the Top 40 on their “All Time Chart”, voted there by the fans, with thousands of site visits and song plays. Right now, you can hear SMALL TOWN HEROES on 4 college and online radio stations which include ROR, TUKSfm, Kovsie and PukFM. They have 2 singles out on these stations. With the formal release of the hugely anticipated “Hard as You Try EP”, the band is confident this radio play will soon include 5Fm, East Coast Radio and Highveld Stereo. has been the busiest year for the band yet. The guys are back in the studio, this time at 3AM Studios in Westville, recording their debutSMALL TOWN HEROES joined the hugely successful, “Stealing Love Jones” on a round of Durban acoustic shows. The band will continue the recording of their full length album, which will hopefully be ready just in time for Christmas, and on the back of that, will be embarking on a nationwide tour to bring the music to the fans! continue to blow the public away with their high energy shows, havingFor more information, CD’s, merchandise and bookings please contact Mark on 082 366 5997. |
